How do hair-removal lasers work?
These lasers target melanin, the dark pigment in the hair shaft. The hair shaft absorbs the energy and transforms it into heat, which will damage hair follicles. The devices are specifically designed to emit a laser beam which will be absorbed only by hair pigment, not the skin. The treatment is safe and most effective, even when treating darker skin types. There are no side effects, like skin burning or darkening. The devices also incorporate a coolant spray to help protect upper skin layers.
How many treatments are required?
It depends on the areas of the hair on the body. However, you can expect at least 3 treatments. For example, only three to four treatments would be required for a mole near the mouth, but it could take six to eight treatments for armpit hair, and a treatment might need to be repeated within one to three months after the initial set of treatments to remove any new hair.
What is the side effect?
Your skin may have a slightly pink or tiny red bumps at the site of the hair follicles. This is temporary and is a good sign that the laser has heated the follicle. But don’t worry, it will recover overnight.
